The Dynamic Duo

Course Description:
These are two of the most constantly evolving, controversial and confusing disciplines in dentistry. Virtually no two dentists can agree on the various techniques and beliefs surrounding these issues. There is no consensus in the literature, between dental faculties or even within most dental schools.

This program analyses the merits of the various strategies one can embrace and implement into practice, and recommends a logical, scientifically valid methodology for delivering the highest quality of care.

Learning Objectives - Posterior Composites

• To be able to assess the value of posterior composites vs. amalgams from a scientific, evidence-based perspective
• To appreciate the choices in the marketplace and value of bulk placement, the latest ‘hot’ area of composite development
• To be able to describe the posterior composite technique, step-by-step, that most closely mimics the technique and predictability of amalgam
• To be able to modify the technique of posterior composite placement to meet a variety of seemingly insurmountable obstacles to their successful placement
• To appreciate why your light curing technique alone may determine success

Learning Objectives - Occlusion

• To be able to recognize occlusal disease ‘red flags’
• To understand the interrelationship of occlusal disease and sleep breathing disorders, and to embrace your role in their recognition
• To be able to develop a methodical approach to assessing and managing TMD’s
• To be able to recognize occlusal ‘failures’ before they occur

An Update in Adhesion Dentistry for 2012

Course Description:
Until 2011, research had shown that single-layer adhesives were too acidic, more permeable & less durable when compared to two-layer adhesives. However, as adhesives continue to evolve, Dr. Suh will share new research showing that certain simplified, single-layer adhesives can be utilized without compromising bond strength or durability, and introduce a new universal adhesive.

In addition, Dr. Suh will introduce a solution for direct and indirect pulp capping that promotes healing, protection & even stimulates hydroxyl-apatite and secondary bridge formation with a technique that is as easy to place as a flowable liner under all restorative options. Finally, Dr. Suh will review the chemistry of adhesion to indirect substrates and how you should utilize them for successful long-term bonding.

Learning Objectives:

• Learn about a paradigm shift for Total-Etch and Self-Etch adhesives: one universal adhesive that can be used for all your bonded restorations.
• Find out how direct & indirect pulp capping can be effectively utilized in your practice to protect the pulp of all your patients.
• Understand proper adhesion protocols for different indirect substrates, including zirconia and lithium disilicates, and what to use to prime each substrate.
